Welcome! I am a scholar of political theory and American politics currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. I received my PhD from the Government Department at the University of Texas at Austin in 2025. Prior to coming to Texas, I studied at Kenyon College in Ohio.

My research focuses on Aristotle’s treatment of factional conflict. I am most interested in the question of how his distinctive assessment can inform our present day understanding of this perennial political problem. Through a careful study of Aristotle’s Politics, along with a comparison with the early modern treatment of faction found in Machiavelli’s Discourses on Livy, my currently book project seeks to clarify and articulate the unique character of classical political realism.

I am passionate about undergraduate teaching and liberal education, and I have experience teaching an introductory course in American political thought. My classroom is a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable confronting challenging ideas. I seek to demonstrate the enduring relevance of studying political thought and in doing so, pursue the dual goals of expanding students’ intellectual horizons and creating thoughtful citizens.
